Bond 50 – Top 10 Bond Moments

To celebrate the 50th birthday of the beloved British institution that is James Bond, here are NG’s top 10 James Bond moments.

10 – Jetpack – Thunderball

Need to escape fast, there is always the car but no James Bond goes one step further, A jetpack. Only James Bond could pull this off. I wasn’t expecting a jetpack when I watched this for the forst time as a kid, a very memorable moment.

9 – Ice Chase – Die Another Day

Here we see two beautiful cars riding around on the ice, blowing at each other with rockets and all sorts. It climaxes with a drive through the Ice Palace for James Bond to save his heroine in distress, mortal distress that is.

8 – Boris ‘I Am Invincible‘ – GoldenEye

All through this film Boris defies the odds and survives, you kind of like him and then end up not liking him. He even survives Bond’s exploding pen. Near the end when he has survived all the film has thrown at him he jinxed himself big time by screaming ‘I AM INVINCIBLE’, only to be frozen where he stands.

7 – British Parachute – The Spy Who Loved Me

This act has become iconic with the James Bond film. It saw James Bond falling from a great height and releasing a parachute with the Union Jack on the back. Very patriotic James. It was even mimicked during the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony by the Queen (Kind of).

6 – Laser – Goldfinger

‘Do you expect me to talk?’, ‘No Mr.Bond I expect you to Die’. Classic line for a classic scene. The utterly cool James Bon was left sweating in this scene as a laser beam slowly made itself towards somewhere dear to him. It took all his brains to get himself out of this one. Phew.

5 – Thames Chase – The World Is Not Enough

Ok where in Britain could you have a boat chase, the Thames of course. Seeing Bond power down this British landmark past many over British landmarks was something that was tailor-made for 007. It all ended with him falling onto the then new and exciting Millenium Dome.

4 – Car Submarine – The Spy Who Loved Me

If you are being chased by a helicopter and the pier in front of you is running out, what do you do? That’s right you dive into the water and access submarine mode on your car. Easily one of Q Branches greatest creations.

3 – Tank Chase – GoldenEye

Yes, a tank chase. They are getting away in a car and you need to catch them, what is gonna scare the hell out of who you are pursuing more than a tank. Whether it would actually keep up is another matter but seeing Bond tearing through the streets in pursuit is golden.

2 – Golden Girl – Goldfinger

Not as golden is this one though. This particular scene is here because of its iconicness (is that a word), used in the posters and remembered by all. A girl is left in Gold dead on Bond’s bed, a big sign by Goldfinger as to what happens to people he doesn’t really like. That doesn’t stop our James though. This scene was also mimicked in Quantum of Solace but with oil.

1 – Free Running – Casino Royal

Watching James Bond chase his nimble bomb-maker was a fantastic sequence. Bond had to use his brain to keep up with him as he took routes that seemed humanly impossible. We then saw them climb a crane, fight on a crane and jump off a crane. In that moment my heart was in my mouth and not many times has that happened during a film, so number 1 it goes.
